A Synopsis on The Musical Shoes....

For those who missed the Christmas musical which was staged at Putra Heights Community Center (PHCC) on 23rd Dec, here is a synopsis of it.

Busy! Busy! Busy! That’s Nick before he met Boy. Busy with getting the musical performance going. Busy with his job as a creative director. Busy was the buzz word for Nick; juggling everything to perfection was his aim; to the extend he doesn’t even have time to go back home to have lunch with his mother on Christmas Day. Till one day, God uses Boy and a pair of shoes to help Nick realize the true meaning of Christmas.

“Hey,” Nick said.
“I am sorry sir, but I am in a hurry to get a pair of shoes for my mummy,” Boy replied; when in a hurry he bumped into Nick.

Curious, Nick went to check the reason for Boy’s haste. In a shoes shop was Boy; desperately wanting to buy a pair of shoes but was too poor to get it. Out of compassion, Nick handed him the money and Boy took Nick back home with him.

Upon reaching home, Boy found it was already too late. His mummy has gone home to be with Jesus. At this point, it dawned on Nick, that there must be more to life than chasing for material possessions, status and fame. It is called Heavenly Love; the meeting with Boy was not by chance; but a
divine appointment set by God to show Nick the true meaning of Christmas.

The ending? You got it right! Nick went back home to have lunch with his mother for Christmas.

Mid Autumn Review

Let me begin by expressing my wonderment and surprise over the attendance of the event. As you would have known, PHCC was just having its second event and we were uncertain about the reception we would be getting. However, the turn out on that night was indeed overwhelming. We brought in 120 chairs and they were all seated. Many (I was told) did not find a place to sit. Some have to stand for a while and later hanged around downstairs. I was surprised that the Internet had made it so convenient for the community to respond. This tells me that this community is connected. I was glad to note that the children were the ones who were having the most fun.

The event was totally cultural with the Great Commissions Social Concern Bhd putting together a splendid program for the night. I particularly liked the traditional Chinese music with the traditional instruments. I was also pleasantly surprised that the young people had hip-hop dances for the night. Our calligrapher guests artist was the last one to leave as he was so busy writing away calligraphic materials to give-away.

What is mid-autumn celebration without moon cakes, chinese tea, baby yam and pomeloes ? Some do not know that these are part of our traditional food for the season. The moon cakes were in abundance, as well as the baby yam! There was a heap of pomeloes left after the event! I guessed modern people have somehow lost some of these good stuff or maybe beginning to lose them.

As for the lantern celebration it was done on a small-scale basic as many did not have lanterns except for the paper ones given by the Community Centre. “Autumn Princess” came out first as she submitted the only lantern-making entry for the competition. The parade was just a short distance walk to add to the celebration. It was a night to remember for this centuries-old tradition.

Paper Lama, Tin-tin Kosong… All For A Worthy Cause

Subang Jaya Assembly (SJAG) celebrated World Environment Day this year by embarking on recycling efforts at Putra Heights.

SJAG members took to the streets of the residential estate on two consecutive Sunday evenings leading to collection day on July 14 to hand out leaflets on the project to the community. The effort was well-rewarded.

On THE day, some 40 SJAG members and 11 vehicles, divided into several groups, combed most phases of Putra Heights. Even the apartments were not spared. It was an experience for each one – humbling for some, learning for others.

For the few hours that Saturday, each member took on the role of the paper lama man, going from house to house and calling out at the gate “got old newspapers, tin-tin kosong to give?”. At one juncture, one of the groups had to “outrace” the real paper lama man, who was doing his rounds in the area! Literally a “paper-chase”!

Most of the residents were cooperative and responded beyond expectation. Several houses even had their aluminum containers packed in boxes and newspapers bundled, all neatly stacked by the roadside, with the leaflet attached, waiting to be collected. Simply amazing!

The vehicles-turned-recycling trucks made scores of trips back to the temporary collection center – each time filled to the brim. By cut-off time, the newspapers, if stacked in a single pile, would have been 22 stories high or 220 feet tall!

The recycling agent just could not believe his eyes when he saw the loads of stuff collected. His 3-tonne lorry was filled to the brim that day, and he had to make another trip the following Monday for the rest of the stuff. In total, the project generated RM1,500!

The beneficiary of the recycling project was the House of Joy in Puchong, a home for abandoned children and destitute elderly. Pastor Francis Yip handed the cheque of RM1,500 to their representatives at SJAG on July 19th 2007. The Home was most appreciative of the contribution and expressed their thanks to the Putra Heights community for their giving.

“Our Hands Touching Your Heart” became a reality that day. THANK YOU, Putra Heights community!!!
